The sun did shine and many keen cleaneruppers did their bit to remove rubbish from the nether regions that often get missed.
The rain and the ensuing stormwater made it very obvious of the impact of plastics in our environment especially the waterways.
At the moment there is a campaign afoot to return the Container Deposit Scheme to our shores. The good old days of collecting the bottles and getting the refund could provide a whole new generation with some pocket money, slow the decline of our waterways with plastic and reduce the need for fresh raw materials every time a drink is poured.
Clean Up Australia Day is supporting the Boomerang Alliance to get political action to reintroduce the Container Deposit Scheme nationally.
South Australia still has a successful scheme in place, the big bottler Coke is challenging the system. The only way it will be introduced is if enough people want it.
